This travertine fireplace design has a straight mantel, light carving, integrated legs and a honed finish. The living-room setting includes a visible hearth and wood firebox, giving the pale surround a traditional frame without a raised overmantel. Its restraint comes from the horizontal mantel and restrained carved detail.
The straight profile makes the proportions of the legs and opening easier to read, while the light carving adds definition around the frame. A honed travertine surface softens reflections and should be filled and sealed to limit the effect of the stone’s natural voids. Piece layout deserves attention because the linear movement can change at a joint. The surround can be made in another suitable stone and adapted to the room. Firebox clearance, wall fixing and heat protection must be confirmed by the installer against the local code.
